I feel like I should write words about webcomics. I read a lot of webcomics, and I often have stuff to say about them, and I like many of them. But I would never do a webcomic review blog. I SHOULD, but I never would. I'll just reccommend things here!
So, today we're going to go with a couple obscure comics. By obscure, I mean they were really well hidden and it took a while for ME to find them. And I hunt comics a lot.
__________
First on the list:
City of Reality
In a few words: Charming, happy, and at the same time horribly horribly wrong.
And the horribly wrong vibe is visible *before* the current (as of right now) chapters, where horribly wrong is the words of the day.
If you want me to talk about the art, I will say the art is perfect. Expressive, looks good, visible, and gets the point across. Those are my criteria for art being perfect, and so this comic's art is perfect.
How bout the story? City of Reality's story, in my professional opinion, is just starting. I mean, there's a lot there, and there are a good number of story arcs up so far, but as far as meta-arc grandiose storiness goes, it's just beginning. Like right now. Quick, read before it's the cool thing to do!
As for the quality? I like it. The story is told well. Is good, yah.
If you're expecting me to write more, stop. I'm just saying, in a very roundabout way, that I like this comic, and you should too.
The comic updates twice a month. Better than most webcomics, cause I'm pretty sure each of those updates is like 24 pages or something. Rarely are comics with a page-pile update worth the wait, but this one so is.
_________
Second, but not least:
A.rtificial T.ime X.ylophone S.olo
Actually, the X and S are never properly explained. Choose your own acronym!
If you felt the previous comic I linked was not batshit-crazy enough to warrant the thread title, this should make up for it. Pretty much the whole reason I enjoy following ATXS is because it's just that weird. I mean... it's inexplicable. Literally.
Here is my paragraph for the art. The art is very pretty, and I fricking LOVE the artist's style, even though it is often hard to tell what is going on in those crazy pictures.
Oh, and bloody violent, too (as the current (as of right now) frontpage shows quite obviously). Not really my thing, but I still like the comic.
That's where the writer comes in. The dynamic that the artist and writer have going is pretty unusual. The artist draws crazy shit. I'm pretty sure he knows where his story is aiming, whatever the HELL the story is. And there is
some communication between him and the writer.. but mostly the work is done completely separate. Aw hell, just read the writer's comments at the end of each page. That gives you a better idea than I can convey about how they work on the comic.
I am going to reiterate the batshit-craziness in this paragraph. So fucking insane. The main character (my favorite) especially so, and yet not in the annoying "I'm the token crazy character in this sitcom-ic and yet everyone for some reason puts up with me" way, either.
Anyone who thinks I'm pushing a pro-Raocow agenda is a conspiracy theorist. It was a strange and unexpected coincidence that the artist happens to do other stuff I like. I had no idea upon finding the comic.
There is your post! Enjoy!
