I'm not sure what you're referring to. Probably something I mentioned once and have since forgotten about.

WHY are you asking the cop to investigate the person who was already investigated?
Because I'm a fucking idiot that can't type names.

Everyone I've felt was scummy turned out to be scum, everyone I felt was innocent turned out to be innocent. The only thing that's continually surprised me is how the damn nightkills have turned out. It's positively bizarre.
Nightkills? There has only ever been one nightkill. And it had the most normal flavor text of any death in the game, and it targetted someone who made sense to target.
I was referring to kill attempts as well as successful murders. Much in the same way as my unorthodox usage of "insane" in reference to any psychologically disturbed cops, I use "nightkills" as slang for any attempts at murder and resulting blocks/counterkills/what have you.

I was using the mafia roleblocker as an example, I didn't actually suspect one. It was just a nice, basic example of a powered mafia role that I assumed all the new players could understand.

It makes sense to form an alliance where you act protown rather than stupidbandwagon X at every oppertunity, and we agree to lynch your target at a point that is best for the town. That player will still win with the town even if they're dead, so it's a win-win situation.
I disagree.
Which makes sense, as I did a bad job explaining what was on my mind. What I meant was that I like to see them claim if they are in a situation where they don't feel it's likely to get a bandwagon on their own. For example, if their target becomes a confirmed cop, what are they gonna do now? A bit extreme, but I've seen it happen.

But yes, just claiming to claim is silly.

milo Wrote:The night choices here are pretty sensible, I don't think anyone really made a wrong choice (although I kinda expected Jess to search Bagbuss, not that it ended up mattering). It is a shame that Haplo wasn't able to trick Bigger Boss into searching someone innocent, so that he could use his framing power - that would have likely bought him at least two days (one where the framee is lynched, one where Bigger Boss is put on point and possibly lynched).

Originally, I probably would have investigated Bagbuss (or Chaos, but he was dead at that point). Reason I chose NOLDER was because of all this speculation of NOLDER gaining a power role after somebody died. So I wanted to try and figure out what this said power might have been. Also, with a few exceptions (NOLDER somewhat / Leander / Chaos / potentially Xagar (according to Chaos), and somebody I might be forgetting(?), the role was fairly weak. Not saying it's a bad role, but all it was really good for against a good portion of people was to check for role claims and see if people were lying that way. For example, if I investigated Ultros and revealed that he was the armorer, I would think most people would then expect him to have been town at that point in time.

Although maybe a better example would be masa. If I checked him, sure, I'd find out he was telling the truth about being a carpenter, but it doesn't really tell me much about him being pro-town or mafia. For all I would have known, he used his saw and cut off people's heads in their sleep.

Yes, I know. I said as much in my post-game reveal. It intentionally wasn't an overly powerful role. Just a little something extra.

In fact it ended up being more useful than I had expected, turning up meaningful information both nights (NOLDER as first mate, combined with his claim and Bigger Boss's speculation, should have made it pretty obvious he'd inherit your power) - you and NOLDER really played to its (limited) strengths.

Yes, that was the point.

And for all you know, Bigger Boss might have been a pirate catboy. But at least you'd know he's telling the truth about being a catboy, doubt of which roleclaim many people were using against him.

Nolder: I think in the same post, or possibly later, what the new thing was keeping notes on everyone.

Emperor Shōkō tells me to bid you to join Shigatsu 7: Day of the Baka Designed by him and translated to English by me.

Come read my terribly written LP!

I'm going to try and make an interactive adventure for you all. Please check it out if you think you'd be interested! (It's not dead yet, I swear)

I have to say that I actually quite enjoyed my death. (Better than being barnacl'd).

Now. Has anyone seen my clothes? the kelp is starting to go dry and it's a tad uncomfortable.

(And yays for the townie win!)

RE: Mafia 16: Wherein Swashes are Buckled
I had intended to post this some time ago in an effort to help anyone who might feel they can glean information from my play, but anyway... I mentioned early in this game that I was keeping a list of players and my opinions on them. I did as such until mid day one. Here is a brief summary:

Scum: Chaos, Haplo
Probably scum: Masa
Uncertain of: Bigger_Boss, Ultros, Jael
Town: Jessica, Nolder, NightWind, Leander, Myself
Dead: aperson, Xagar

So, in essence, I made one mistake and pegged seven people correctly. This was in no way due to any skill on my part, but rather simple observation.

I was going to make a longer, detailed post regarding my playstyle (it boils down to: I was trying to help people learn to play) but the most important thing to take away from this is so simple a complex elaboration on my actions is not needed. Rather, realize that day one is the most important day. Utilize it. Don't just assume it's all random nonsense: mafia is a game of logic and deduction. So, go forth young Horatio and deduce.

Additionally, take note that nothing I did in the last game was specifically pro-town. I pointed out facts, voted to force people to reveal information they were not saying, and never voted on a lynch save the last day as I was asked to. Everything I did could be done by scum without hurting their mafia.

I am not particularly good at mafia, but hopefully my experience can be of use to others. At the very least, I remain desperately hopeful that it will dispel the nonsensical illusions people harbor regarding the first day of the game.

RE: Mafia 16: Wherein Swashes are Buckled
I thought it was a Japanese game hero. Shakespeare sounds more plausible - I read Romeo and Juliet, the Tempest and I think it must have been one of those two.

After googling, it was actually from Hamlet.

Funnily enough, I don't recall anything about the real Hamlet, but I remember the Simpsons version well and clear. It seemed kind of pointless though - at least without any other additional material which helps explain the story/play/thing.
